Twelve weeks with room to adjust

3-Month SAT Study Plan

A three-month timeline supports gradual learning, spaced review, and several evidence-based adjustments without forcing SAT prep to crowd out school.

Timeline
12 weeks
School-night baseline
30–60 focused minutes
Reallocation checks
After every full test

Start lighter than you think you need. A schedule you can repeat through busy school weeks is more useful than a demanding first week you abandon.

Generic editorial framework

A gradual twelve-week framework

The framework deliberately cycles learning, retrieval, timing, and testing instead of assigning nonstop question volume.

WeekPhaseGeneric work
Week 1DiagnoseComplete and review a baseline test; establish the mistake-log categories you will use all term.
Week 2Foundation ALearn and practice the highest-priority skill in the weaker section.
Week 3Foundation BAdd a priority from the other section and retrieve Week 2 material in short mixed sets.
Week 4ConsolidateCombine the first priorities, add a timed module, and review pacing without chasing speed.
Week 5Checkpoint 1Take a full test, compare domain patterns, and reallocate the next three weeks.
Week 6Repair AAddress the most persistent knowledge or setup error revealed by the checkpoint.
Week 7Repair BWork on the next recurring error while maintaining improved areas with brief retrieval.
Week 8Mixed timingUse mixed section sets and timer checkpoints; preserve a review block after every set.
Week 9Checkpoint 2Run a realistic full test and identify which section is improving faster.
Week 10ReallocateShift time toward the slower section while keeping one short maintenance set for the stronger section.
Week 11Dress rehearsalComplete the final full test early enough for a calm, complete review.
Week 12TaperReview the mistake log and a few representative problems; reduce volume before test day.

A school-compatible weekly pattern

Place the hardest cognitive work where your week actually has space.

  • Use three or four short school-night sessions for learning, retrieval, and mistake review.
  • Reserve one weekend block for a timed module or full test and a separate block for review.
  • During exam weeks, keep only retrieval and error review; move the larger SAT block instead of borrowing sleep.

Reallocate when one section moves faster

The original split is a hypothesis, not a contract.

  • Compare repeated skill patterns, not only the total-score change from one test.
  • Reduce, but do not eliminate, maintenance work for the improving section.
  • If neither section moves, audit whether practice is being reviewed deeply enough before adding hours.

More time does not make the target automatic

The value of twelve weeks is the ability to adjust from evidence. It is not a guarantee of any point increase.

Use official practice tests as checkpoints

College Board says its Bluebook full-length practice tests are timed and scored. Use them to collect comparable evidence, then review the questions and performance data before changing the next phase.
